nice job, particularly do it yourself. how did you get the elk out? did you have access tohorses to haul out the quarters? again, well done--
Tenderloins, backstraips and rack went out on our backs that night. It would have taken two more full-day and miserably heavy trips to get him out, so fortunately my pal knew a couple guys who were going to hunt through the area with horses anyways and picked up the meat from both animals trail-side for a very reasonable deal. All we had to do was go back in and drag the quarters to the trail, a job that made me happy that was all the distance we had to move them.

very fortunate. saved you a lot of days, hours...that's a big hesitation for me in DIY elk in big country, particularly ingoing back in several miles-- I guess the only solution isto find a few guys like you did, would imagine in this economy, you can find people with horseswho would be willing to help out.

Going DIY in The Bob is an accomplishment on it's own...add the fact that you knocked down two great animals and I'd say you did one hell of a job!! Good for you!!

Yeah, I could not have been happier with the bull but I will be pickier on the muley. At the time I shot him we had been seeing squat for deer and I did not like the thought of mounting my tag on the wall so he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time to live through the day!
