I was in New Mexico 3rd week of September. Public land hunt, with outfitter. Camp (wall tents, etc) set up off dirt road and hunted spots every day that required driving to. Some action close to road and one spot (wilderness area, so long walks, but...bulls - yes, hunters - no!)
Didn't slit my tag, but had 7 bulls "in" going nuts, although they stayed a bit further out than previous hunts in this same area. Archery hunt. Smallest bull seen was a 4x5, biggest was a toad of 6x6. Many in close, screaming, but didn't show...so many more than 7 bulls going!!

- I'm hunting CO between Steamboat and Kremmling. This is where I hunt deer. Not a top Elk unit but I think I know where they are now so I pulled a cow tag to try it out. This will be my first time going for Elk. How much time I spend will depend on filling the deer tags. My first priorty is to get my son a deer.
- 2nd Rifle, combined
- We camp off a road at the base of Middle Carter Mountain. I'll drive up to the elk area, park and start walking.
- I leave on Oct 17th
Good luck to you all and shoot straight,
