Wow you guys are shooting some cannons. Do you just look in the scope and shoot for fur?
Although not a hammer in your eyes I shoot a 7MM WSM which can compare in some ballistics as a 300 win mag.

In my much earlier days of elk hunting I used a32 Win Sp., Model 64 Winchester and my younger eyes and legs. It worked but since there was no internet I had no clue I was just getting by with it. Apparently elk realized it but they still died none the less. Nowadays I use a Remington Sendero in .300 Win mag, Sierra 180 gr. BTSP GK and a speedy dose of IMR4350. It tips them over quite nicely from any range I would take the shot.

BTW, that 300 win mag doesn't count and isn't able to be counted on to reliably "slap" an elk to the ground where it stands.
And sorry for you too sclwald, your's is even less effective at anchoring elk on the spot. Lord knows that 150 or 160 grain bullet will only bounce off their hide.

If my .300 Win mag doesn't count as a slap them to the ground kinda gun....I'm ok with them just falling over. So my final answer is "No I don't own one".
FYI the fastest "slap to the ground" shot I have ever seen. Looking right over the open sights of the said Model 64, one shot to the back of the head, raghorn bull at 30 yds. I was 16 and decided that until Al Gore invents the internet I would continue to use that gun.

I know, I forgot the smileys but I was totally being a smart butt about my post........ in your favor. 
Last time I checked a 200 grain bullet wasn't required to drop an elk on the spot.

Since my son isn't on the forum I will post on his behalf. .300 Win mag, 180 gr. Sierra BTSP GK at 240 yds. tipped her over but did not slap her to the ground. She walked a total of 1/2 step after the shot. The boy is 14 and I thought his 'recoil management' was quite good considering the circumstances.
