There is no season for caribou in alberta. If non residents could hunt sheep with residents like they are allowed to do with deer we would soon be on a draw system for residents.

STUBBLEJUMPER- THANX FOR THE CARIBOU INFO
YEA I GUESS THERE WOULD BE LOTS OF PEOPLE COMING TO GET THEM. I KNOW I WOULD. HERE IN AK YOU ARE ALLOWED TO "GUIDE" CLOSE RELATIVES ( FIRST DEGREE KINDRED) IT HAS NOT REALLY PRESENTED A PROBLEM WITH THAT SET UP HERE BUT WE MAY HAVE A LARGER NUMBER OF SHEEP....I DON'T KNOW.

ANOTHER STORY- RODE MTN. BIKES 12 MILES WITH 2 FRIENDS THEN WALKED. 6-8 MILES HUNTED 4 DAYS SAW A FEW SHEEP. ONE OF THE GUYS WATCHED 4 RAMS LATE ONE EVENING ONE OF THE RAMS WAS HUGH BUT "APPEARED" TO BE BLIND AS THE OTHERS SEEMED TO TO BE GUIDEING IT AROUND ?????? THIS WHAT I WAS TOLD. WE WENT BACK NEXT DAY AND COULD NOT LOCATE THE RAMS. THEN IT STARTED SNOWING ALOT. AND WE BAILED. 4-5 DAYS LATER A RIFLE HUNTING FRIEND I RETURNED BY A DIFFERENT ROUTE. 1-1/2 DAY WALK. I WAS SHOOTING A COMPOUND BACK THEN AND HAD TORN MY ARROW REST OFF WITH NO SPARETRIED SHOOTING OFF THE SHELF. AT 20 YARDS MY 40 YARD PIN WORKED. WE SPOTTED 4 RAMS ON THE TOP OF A RIDGE. TOO LATE TO GO AFTER THEM BUT THEY WERE THERE AT DARK. BEFORE FIRST LIGHT WE STARTED THAT DIRECTION. WEATHER WAS NASTY, RAIN , FAST MOVING CLOUDS WHICH = WINDY. WE GOT TO THE BASE OF THE RIDGE THEY HAD BEEN ON BUT THE TOP WAS IN THE CLOUDS. WE ATTEMPTED TO GET UP THERE ABOUT 4PM. WE CRESTED THE TOP NO SHEEP WE WALKED DOWN THE RIDGE 100 YARDS AND THEY WERE. WE GOT WITH IN 40 YARDS NO WAY TO GET CLOSER. TOO FAR TO SHOT WITH OUT AN ARROW REST AND THE CROSS WIND WAS TERRIBLE. I PASSED TO MY PARTNER HE RIFLED THE BIGGEST ONE ....NOT THE "BLIND " ONE. HE WAS NOT THERE.?????WE GOT BACK TO CAMP 2-3 HOURS AFTER DARK. VERY TIRED AND HEADED HOME NEXT DAY, AFTER HUNTING 1/2 DAY.1-1/2 DAY TRIP OUT, KICKED OUR BUTTS, HEAVY ,HEAVY PACKS(?100LBS+). 33.5 X 34.5

Fellas, I am in the same boat as many of you. Waiting for the draw results for the Chugach mountains. Put in for three hunts, so we will see what happens. Hopefully beginners luck will set it!

Lil,
at least from the pontoon I'll be able to see the fish better!
who knows. I think I will be baiting for blacks as well. don't know if I will be doing it off the rail system (up towards denali) or south of here. my buddy that I'm helping is still talking to the biologists and we are determining which is more realistic.

but as for the sheep, If I don't get drawn, I will probably do a fly in for caribou..I still have my fingers crossed
