Hi guys,
I posted this in the Northeast forum w/o any respose so I thought I'd try it here.
I'm considering going on a do it yourself Maine bear hunt this fall. I really don't want to kill a bear over bait (just a personal preference). I thought I'd go spot and stalk some large clearcuts or hunt mast.Just wanted to getsome opinions from those that have done it before.I'd be interested to hear any tips on tactics and particularlywhen to go (early or late season).
Oh yeah -- I'll have a full week to hunt and will be hunting near Mt. Katahdin.
Thanks,
GH

I do not know of anyone having any luck trying to hunt them using the methods you have stated unless they have happened to have stumbled into one. Perhaps you may want to look for sign around some apple trees or blackberry bushes and watch over them. The bears will know if someone or something is trying to follow them and can dissapear rather quickly, without you even knowing they are there.
