Both would work great for the situations you mentioned. If recoil is a problem for you, I would say go with the 7mm. For me the recoil seems about the same as an ' 06. I know some people who can handle an ' 06 but find a 300 Win Mag a bit to much. I belive that the 7mm Rem Mag is one of the most versitile cartridges availible. Good luck!!

I' ve been considering the between the same 2 calibers. Since I want to use it primarily for Elk, but possibly for whitetail, I' m planning to get a .300 WM. When looking at the trajectory charts I don' t see much difference of the 7 mm being much flatter for similar weight slugs. The big difference I see is the significant high " energy" rating with the .300 Win. Mag.
