Are you talking about the East Fork of the South Fork of the Salmon River (near Yellowpine)? If so, the posts about steep country and wolves are correct. I'd reccommend a backpack trip where you can get back in away from the roads. There are good numbers of elk and deer in the area despite the wolf issues, you will just have to work a little harder to find them and may not have much luck calling. I would reccommend the Johnson Creek area, or Wark Lake area for the early archery hunt.
