So a 280ai would be a heck of a compromise without having to fool with the belt when reloading it looks like.
HadI been able to find a 280 rem/24" barrelin a left handed action at the time I would have bought it. I think it's a heck of cartridge and the AI version makes the marginal differences in the 280 and 7mm rem mag skewed even more. I reload for 2 - 280's that are used for moose down, no problems. 1 prefers 160 class bullets and the other isn't fussy.

My first 280 was a Remington 700 BLD LH. OK, It didn't start out that way. I had a LH 30-06 that I just flat shot the barrel out on. I sent it in to E.R. Shaw and had it rebarreled with a 24 inch 280 barrel. Later on I gave the rifle to a young Marine who fell in love with it.

The next one I had was some sort of special run BDL Synthetic stocked one. It had a 24 inch barrrel and was really a good rifle. I eventually got the itch for something new and traded that one, not knowing that Remington would drop the 24 inch barrels. I wish the SPS was chambered in 280 with its 24 inch barrel.

I now have an NEF 280 with a 26 inch tube. It shoots pretty well for what it cost. but it groups 1 1/2 inches. No way can I shrink the groups any smaller.
