According to Barnes, the highest ME for the 7MMrum has a bit over 4100 lb ME while the 300 RUM's top load is a bit over 4600 lb ME.

This didn't print out the way I copied and pasted it.
heres the links. http://www.remington.com/products/ammunition/ballistics/comparative_ballistics_results.aspx?data=PRSC7UM1* PR300UM5 http://www.remington.com/products/ammunition/ballistics/comparative_ballistics_results.aspx?data=PR7UM5*PR 300UM4 The high lighted one is the 7mmRUM . Again these are factory remington loads. At 300 yrds allmost identical. From there out the 7mm RUM takes the lead. They are pretty much twinsby the looks of thing. This is for 150 gr. I am curious about hand loads for these 2 though. Could you post something in the reload forum so I can take a look at these comparisons from handloads? Or link me a sight.Thanks. |
RE: Which two "MAGNUM" rifles for ALL N.A. Big Game?
Both the 7mm RUM and the .300 RUM, are not needed, they are just barrel burners based on a elephant gun case, they are expensive to shoot, and offer nothing. I won't own one.

RE: Which two "MAGNUM" rifles for ALL N.A. Big Game?
That may be true if you are using remington ammo, however if you go to weatherbys website and look at weatherby ammo using a 180 grain partion bullet it has more energy than your 7mm RUM

One source would be www.hodgdon.com. Also when you compare the two, be sure you are using bulleys of equal sectional Density, bullet weights in different caliber will not give accurate results for performance. The 168 gr in 30 cal is about equal to the 150 in 7MM the 160 in 7MM would be close to the 180 in the 30 cal.

I've take Alaskan Bull Moose with a .338 Win Mag. 250 grain Sptizer Boattail, Sierra 2600 Bullet, with 73.5 grains of IMR 7828 power. Works for me! ;)

RE: Which two MAGNUM rifles for all N.A. Big Game?
I don't like to carry alot of weight around when I hunt let alone two rifles!! Therefore; I choose one magnum to take anywhere: my .300 WSM with handloaded ammo.
Load a 180 grain Nosler Part. with RL 22 to 2900+ FPS and you can kill anything. Take it one step further... Load a 200 grain Nosler Part. with RL 22 to 2800 FPS and you can say "HELLO" to any bear that walks in the US or Canada, let alone knock an Alaskan Yukon moose for loop! Recoil is very tolerable and the accuracy of this round is excellent! |
