I owned a .340 WBY. for two years, and even harvested a small black bear with it, it is an awesome caliber, with a lot of power.

Having 2 magnums for hunting all NA Game is just for gun collecters.
If your a hunter first, butinsist on blowing up most of your meat..........get a .338
Will kill anything...................
Oh yea I can see EKM correcting me already on only one gun, so get 2- .338's

Tirade seems most appropriate over in the other "two non-magnumrifles for N.A."thread…. but since you insist....

(1) Since when is being (a) a hunter and (b) owning two or more magnums considered mutually exclusive from each other? Collectors first and hunters second? I guess we will need to inform: BBJ, bigbulls, JamesB, and many, many others of their new "standing".

(2) In my experience, a 338WinMag will, as you say,“blow up” (explosive bullets or just cheap ammo?) less meat than a smokin’ 270 round. With a medium velocity (2400-2800) heavy mag with non-cheap bullets you tend to be able to eat right up to the hole.

(3) As a matter of chance, I do happen to have a pair of 338WinMags, but don’t get to use them much as my twin boys latched onto them at age 19 when they decided they wanted to step up a notch.

(4) BTW, I’m glad you edited your reference about ".388’s" over to read .338, I would have hated to have had to "correct" you.

I assume it is kinda tough being young, raising a family, and making a living out on there on the edge; damn fine country though, no doubt.

Doe Dumper. Hide your head, do you call those cartridges. More like snap caps.:DWhere are you going to get ammo for that 5MM?:(Years ago I almost bought a 5MM and decided on a 22 Mag at the last minute. Glad I did. I guess the 17HMR would qualify.

EKM I guess he is right. I am a collector. My wife will verfy that.:D
