Any other PA bear hunters getting fired up for the upcoming bear season on Monday? If you hunt in a few of the Pocono counties you have a longer season, too. We're hunting in Sullivan County (State Game Lands #13). For some reason I have a good feeling about this bear season. I hope the weather holds up. No fog, please.

Scott...A good friend of mine who travles 487 a lot saw 3 bear about a week ago crossing the road close to #13! I think it had to be a mama and her cubs,he also hit a deer the same day...the doe ran off but his truck had $1800 worth of damage!! We grow tough deer around here...

PAJack,
We had 3 bears in our back yard on Saturday night. It was a mama and 2 large cubs (if they were by themselves you wouldn't think they were cubs). We are across the road from Lake Jean. We also saw a few 8 pointers. There was a nine pointer at the Sullivan Review that would score about 158 gross. Very thick, 11.5 inch tines and 22 inch spread. The guy got it at Ringer Hill. It should be in this weeks paper.

I'm cranked up and ready to head to camp! Wed. is my last day of work and then it's six days off thru the second day of bear....Yeee Haw! Not to rub it into those who log a bunch of long hours and days........then I work five days and have off nine over buck season. Double Yee Haw on that one!
On the down side, I've had no luck finding deer and turkey or bear this year. I just posted a question in the northeast regional forum in regards to acorns. I haven't seen one single new acorn yet this year. Not to mention that I've seen zero turkeys, few deer and very little bear sign. Check out the acorn question and let me hear your reports.

Oh yeah, oh yeah Mr. Bad Attitude, well I'm only burning up two vacation days, Hmmmmmmmm how about you? Also, here in Pa. we consider 6 days plus 9 days to equal 15 days. I guess two weeks in Ohio is more? I'm ready, oh yeah, lets get it on! Just kidding there budrow! I Hope everyone has a fun and safe Bear/Buck season.

Uh hem.. panob, this Friday (22nd) till possibly Dec 7th (if needed)is actually 16 days through in Sunday for 17? Hmmm I know it's tough to take a math lesson from a flatlander but 17 is greater than 15. (kidding of course) How do ya'll feel about the new antler restrictions? We love'em. We always had a no spike rule in Camp (until Weds then a legal buck is a legal buck). This can only be good for the herd. I do hate the concurrent doe/buck season. My cousin almost got shot last year. He was admiring a doe that had fed to within 10 ft of him when some-one whacked it. The guy who shot said he didn't see him? Hmm clad in blaze orange, it's hard to hide.

I like the antler restriction idea but highly doubt that enough hunters are going to be willing to wait and positively count antlers. Too many people get too excited over shooting any buck and won't be able to resist the temptation. And what about the buck that goes running by at about 75 yards in the woods and only briefly stops in the laurel before running again? I know whats gonna happen........WHAM! Then the antlers will get counted. (Less than three............let it be!) I'm afraid alot of deer are going to be shot and then left lay. But this antler restriction idea has to make things better for future years. Better for those who don't shoot spikes and four pointers anyways.
