To clear up the tag/licence situation.
To hunt in Alaska you have to have a hunting licence.
This cost me USD$300.

In Alaska you can trade down your tag.
Brown/Grizzly is the most expensive and can be used on any lesser value game e.g. Moose, Caribou, Wolverine etc.
A Griz tag cost me USD$665. I also had a Caribou tag, USD$400.
A Wolverine tag normally costs USD$250
(I pay a little more than anyone from the lower 48, as I'm classified as a "Non-Resident Alien")
I shot a young Caribou, so that the Outfitter/Guide could take some meat home. (I can't take meat back to where I come from.) So that filled my Caribou tag. The griz tag went on the Wolverine.
Early in the hunt I had an opportunity to shoot a Wolf, but chose not to.
The Wolf and I sat staring each other down for about 15 minutes and only 50 yards apart. In the end I put a shot between his feet to run him off.

The good luck for me on this hunt was encountering both Wolf and Wolverine, both are quite rare encounters.
The bad luck..no Griz...no Moose.....
Next time.
I did get a very nice Black Bear on a different hunt during the same visit to Alaska. (See post First Bear.)

No just downgraded my $750 Brown Bear Tag. You can do that in AK.

Tim, congratulations on your Wolverine. They are truly a unique animal.

I've been lucky enough to have seen two Wolverines. One when I was hunting Bighorn sheep in SW Montana, and the other while I was hunting Dall sheep in Canada's Northwest Territories.
