Colorado Archery Elk Hunt

At this time, doe tags are not offered. Should that change,I will be the first in line. The saddest thing about missing a trophy mule deer twice is this guy shoots daily and can drill asilver dollarat 70 yards in camp. Of course he did fill his tag this year on a much smaller buck at 86 yards. Definitely too far for me.

86 yards!?? My arrow would be burried in the dirt before it even thought about getting that far. I know, I could crank up the poundage, but then my pins would be off. I shoot .029 and they can only get so close together. I have been thinking about getting some .019. I've even seen .010, but with my eyesight, I can't even make out the fiber optics at the end.

86 yards is too far for a bow period. Too much can happen between the time you release the arrow and the time it reaches its target.
300+ bulls are trophies anywhere man. Where I go in area 63, I have seen 2 300 type bulls in 7 years. So, as you can tell, not the same type of elk hunting as perhaps you are used to in 62. Would you mind telling us what public land you are hunting in 62? I am going back next week though, as the scenery is awesome and there are a lot of elk to chase. I always enjoy it.

I have to agree that 86 yards is too far. Not a shot I would take. I am hunting the Uncompahge National Forest. There are normally 4 in my group. This year, we had a verylarge group with 9 folks. The 8 other folks combined saw around 70 elk in the first three days of the season. I saw one cow after it opened and didn't have a shot at her. Thus, I too will be back at it next week.
