I know this has probably been brought up before but i figured i'd ask anyways. Should be getting my gun in anyday for my elk hunt in utah and was wondering if anyone could suggest any good factory loads in 30-06 for elk. I was considering the 180gr Speer Grand Slam, 180gr Winchester Fail safes, 180gr partitions. I was wondering what you guys thought of those or if you had any other ideas. i appreciate the help. Thanks!

I don'tknow what all is available in factory loads. As Stubble mentioned the TXS if its factory loaded would be a good one as would the Federal 180 grain Partitions and Federal Fusions in 180 grain. Good Luck on your elk hunt.

How far is the shooting? 180 is may be heavy if your looking at 300+ yds. The premium rounds are nice but I've seen a lot of elk drop to basic Remington ammo. It's only about $17 a box.

Federal,
180 grain TSX or Partition.
For elk stick with the heavy for caliber bullets.

BTW, great choice of cartridges for your new rifle and for your upcoming elk hunt. The 30-06 is our camp minimum for elk and it is a quite capable minimum. ================================================== =
RE: $17 per box ammo....
If cost of ammo isa significantconstraint, thenone probably shouldquestion whether it is wise to goon an out of state, away from home, remote elk hunt. While it is an absolutely great experience, if it is your first time (maybe everytime)itwill be more expensive than you expect by the time you are all done and the cost all added up. [Bit different story for elk locals.]
