Meat in the freezer.....
I took my good luck charm with me this morning to start teaching him about hunting, not expecting to see anything where we went, just got out of the truck and walked about 200 feet and my boy points and says is that what we are looking for dad!!!! Sure enough there stands a nice 3 pointer at 85 yards. he was So excited. I'm really looking forward to having him as a hunting partner for a long time.

Pretty nice buck there, raceman--- They are still in velvet ?? I would have thought it would have been rubbed off by now. No luck on elk with the bow?? Quite a few bulls taken on this side of the mtn. How old is your partner? I like it that you are taking him along.

Hey Bob, I was a little shocked too to see it in the velvet, most uncommon this time of year, I talked with the game warden and he said that he has seen 5 or 6 so far this season with velvet??????
For my archery season I got to hunt about 3 days total out of 30, been real busy building, and my bull outsmarted me again, been chasing him for about 3 years now, good friends now I would probably let him go even if he gave me a shot now, naaahhhhh lol.
My boy will have his 8th birthday on the 28th of this month and he can't wait till he can get his first license. My girl will get to go with us next year, she is REAL good at cow calling and only 6, taught her well lol.

Congrats, Raceman. I'm also surprised at the velvet still being on your buck. These prairie bucks are all polished up! I'd like to get one with velvet still on someday, but haven't even gone out yet. I kinda like waiting 'til the early birds start disapaiting, I've got a plains bow tag. My brothers and uncle that I normally elk hunt with did extremely well this year. They went first season and tagged out. 4 cows and a 5x5. I decided to sit this year out, do to knee surgery, but plan on being back in the game next year, although I think I'll be bow hunting elk next year. Again, congrats, on the nice buck!
