I watched a bow hunt for them this weekend on the Outdoor Channel. Besides the cold they seem pretty easy to shoot. The guy followed them on snowmobiles until the heard ran and then looked for the one that fell behind figuring it was the oldest. He walked right up to it and shot it with the bow at about 25 yds.

I've never hunted them but I've been around them quite a bit while hunting caribou in northern Alaska. They're very easy to approach and wouldn't be much of a challenge to kill. I walked up to an old bull once andbounced a rock off his butt sohe'd turn for a picture. Not much of a challenge. The real challenge is in drawing a tag (AK) or in the remote transport (Canada).

Don't forget the challenge of paying for a hunt for one, the tag alone is pricey, even for Alaska residents.

Ak Jeff,
When you did that (the rock), did you have an apprehension thatthe bullmight turn on you. Are they at all aggressive at close quarters? I love to watch themfight each other during the matingrituals (on tv). Would like to see them up close one day.

Nope but picked up a few skulls when I was prospecting. The live females acted like milk cows and let me take good photos. The old bulls made me nervous but then I only had a rock hammer.
A hunt would be all about a tundra travel expirience, the kill underwhelming.

Sure. Could I outrun him? No way. Could I outrun the guy I was standing with? Yep!!!

The same holds true for bears. You don't need to be able to outrun the bear, just the guy you're with.

Here's that picture...copyright ME.

Plus a couple of other fees... You'll spend around $400 canadain before you walk out the door. BTW they will only take canadain money for tags, lic. and gov. fees.
