1/2" group at 200 yards
Before you all call BS on me, let me say that it was probably a fluke. I don't think I could do it again given infinate chances. Yet, just last night I took my 338 down to the field and fired a few shots at 200 yards. I was shooting in the setting position with my sling snugly around my elbow and forearm (just like dad taught me so many years ago). I waited for my breathing to settle and to "get in the zone" mentally. I squeezed three shots of in relatively short order and got up to see how it looked. I walked the 200 paces to my target to find a nice little clover leaf pattern with the edges touching in the center of the orange bull.[] I figured I should quit while I was ahead and didn't shoot anymore. I guess "ole killer" is itchin for the elk woods too!

I don't have a scanner. But I will try to take a picture of the target with a digital camera tonight and post it tommorrow. I'll have to see if I can make this new technology work for a dumb hillbilly. Anyway, its pure dumb luck either way. I wish I would've had a witness though. Funniest thing is that I'm supposed to be zeroed at 250 and they where dead on at 200. maybe I should rezero

I wouldnt doubt it at all- and I'm a hillbilly that can even spell d-o-u-b-t!!! I had a Model 70 338 Wm that was the tack drivingest Big Game rifle I ever shot! And, contrary to what you read on every gun site, they are a pleasure to shoot. They do not have a bad recoil-rather, kind of a velvety like long push-it is not sharp. I have shot many 7mm's that hurt worse to shoot than the 338. Of course I'm a believer that the win Mod 70 is an optimum design to minimize recoil-especially in the classic sporter model-nice and heavy-with pretty straight stock.

when I got home last night, my ole lady was cleaning house. Guess what got "cleaned". Thats right. I don't know about your guy's wives, but mine can't stand papers lying around. My target has vanished. We all know it was pure blind luck anyway.

shato,
youre a sniper!!...I was happy off the bench the other day with my .338 win shooting Federal High Energy 225 grn TBBCs. 5 shot group inside an inch and a quarter. 3 shot group sub moa with 2 holes touching at a 100yds! but to shoot a half inch at 200 is impressive to say the least!!

Hemi,
Trust me I'm no sniper. It was pure luck! I shot again this weekend. At the same spot using the same techniques and had a three shot group that was probably 3 Inches. Not bad at all but far from the magic of the other evening.
