I need some help!! I am planning a bowhunt for elk next fall to the Steamboat Springs, CO area. What date do the elk begin bugling in this area and when is the usual peak of the bugling/rutting season?

Goodegg,
It varies a bit from year to year but, typically, the rut begins in early September and ends in early October. From my experience, it seems that the last 2 weeks of bow season are the hottest.

Typically around the 1st or 2nd week of September is when it starts (although I've often times heard them in the middle of August) then it really heats up around the 3rd week of September to the 1st week of October. They were bugling up there through the middle of October in a lot of areas. Last year most of the bugling started after the muzzleloader season was over.
