Smoked one on Public Land Friday morning !!!

Hunted this same place last season so I kinda knew where one might be roosted..

Right as I got set up a tom gooble'd on the roost about 75 yards off to my front left alittle bit and another one off to my left further away.. I heard about 8 other toms gobble.. I listen'd to em all gobble for 30 mins or so .. I broke out the slate call and did some clucks and purrs and leaf scratching about 3 times then went back silent... I heard him fly down and then it sounded like they was headed away from me.. Some other birds made him shock gobble and he was still close... I got out the crystal call and made some louder yelps... Two toms gobbled right away... I waited 5 mins or so and then did it again.. They about busted my ear drums !! They were less than 50 yards behind a big tree I was on the other side of ... I dropped the call and got ready... About 6 mins later he came around the edge of the tree about 25 yards in front of me and I let that ole shotgun sing ... Drop em in his tracks !!!

What a great feeling !! Fist pumps etc.. Awesome morning !!

Eastern Wild Turkey

Weight = 24.3 Pounds
Beard = 9 1/2 Inches
Spurs = 1 Inch

Nwtf Score - 24.18 + 10 + 10 + 19 = 63.18

Congrats!
I went out w-sat great hunts but no turkey yet. First day just saw hens and a tom came in after I was far off, second day, Tom answered my calls but had a hen, third day same thing. The forth day I set up to close to a tom, he flew off the roost over my head and headed for the strut area and so did I. Soon I had 30 turkeys in front of me gobbling, strutting, fighting and mating, trying to close the distance at one point I had to crawl on all fours with very little cover then I heard a gobble far off soon that gobbler was running from 300 yards directly at me, I had not called in 15 min and was in full camo, had moved from my calling position deciding ambush was a better choice.
and yet this gobbler was running right at me stopping twice to strut, I took my shot at 30 yards and missed! I am going to re pattern my shotgun before I go out again.

So why would this tom run strait to me? No turkeys within 50 yards of me.

Nothing in the AM. Went home for breakfast from 9-9:30 then back out. Heard three gobbles between 10-Noon. And saw 9 hens. Good first hunt, hopefully be on some Gobblers tomorrow.
