Congrats again Mottz. I believe it works, it would just be scary trying it.
That must have been very exciting and scary. I hunt public land, so I would never try it.

I am glad those guys on your cams, did not take your camera or mess with your stuff.

I agree with you DTC, my season is over, so its nice to hear the stories and see the pics.

Keep after them guys. John

John, today was my first day out as our season opened up today! I will be back out in the morning! I will not give up even though today was definitely a big let down on my part.. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.. heck it is only day 2 of our month long season.. I can not complain to awful bad I guess. I am just discourage with my luck today over that big long beard..

Yeah, Mottz I can not blame you as I busted everyone else LOL.. The thing is I have not seen any hens with that big guy yet. Heck I have not even seen him until today. He is/was a monster of a turkey and I wll check out and see if he is around again in the morning..

Spent 7 hours in the popup blind this afternoon. 2 hens and a jake, nuthin in range. Looks like no work again tomorrow so i'm goin at em one more time. Lookin like this will be my last hunt. Gonna stick it out till 11 or 12 and then i'm done. Regardless of what happens its been a pretty exciting season. If i blank out it won't be from lack of tryin thats for sure! Think my tailbone is permenantly bruised from all the sittin!
Go get em in the morning Phil!!
Mottz that gobbler this morning was all alone, heard him gobble and went after him. Once he spotted that fan he came up to me quick, just not quite close enough and then got real nervouse, he was puttin but still kept gobblin. Woulda went after him but this property is pretty much all thick swamp, once they leave the little feild pretty tough to follow where they go. Was quite the thrill tho, and never woulda happened if ya wouldn't have told me about it Thanks for that!!!

Good Luck j76! As well as everyone else that maybe out there looking for one..

I am heading back out there shortly.. I am leaving my Remington 1100 Magnum home and taking my trusty old Ithica instead. That old shotgun has taken a few decent turkeys for me in the past. So hopefully one of those long beards will show itself today!

No luck today.. I saw three long beards 2 being decent ones and 1 big one. Several hens. One of the decent long beards I tried to get a shot at it and a dumb cow moose was in between us. The tom was just to the right of the cow and I didn't dare to risk it.. That was surely a first to have happen to me.. Maybe some better luck tomorrow.

Sat till noon today. Heard quite a bit of gobbling on the roost, then it went quiet. Never heard or seen anything the rest of the hunt. Lookin like thats pry gonna be it for me, sorry boys but looks like my 8 yr run of sucessful seasons has come to an end. What a bummer!! I gave it all i could, hunted the past 8 days in a row and put in a ton of hours. Guess it just wasn't meant to be this yr.

I am sorry to hear of this j76.. But, sometimes things can change. I am hoping I can nail a gobbler down. I am dying to blast a cap on one.. It seams most of them just went and disappeared on me.. I know they are around though.. A few keeps letting me see them and that was about it today. Also that darn moose in between us was not so good for me either..

Ok guys, I just want to give you some sort of understanding of the stuff I travel threw. As well as, one of my chance encounters.

Here is the lines.. Just on the bottom of this hill your looking at the lines leave the dirt road. In some places it is roughly 3 miles back.. You can see a turkey in this stuff almost anywhere if they are out.

This picture is a chance encounter with a cow moose false charging me to stay away from her yearling..
You just sort of have to let them be.. This a sampling of what you can encounter up here. Whether turkey hunting or anything else..

This is a close up of one ugly looking yearling..I guess you can say only a mother could love.. LOL

That is not to mention the bears and the like that you can encounter. In fact I have 1 this turkey season so far. Just a young one around 80 to 90 lbs. I hope all those pics do not bore none of you.. I just wanted to give you an idea of what it is like..

Sorry to hear that j! Sometimes everything goes to plan but sometimes it doesn't. At least ya got out there to give it your all! We'll keep fighting for ya.

Phil, those are some good pics. I always like seeing where everyone else hunts and what they see. If you happen to find a moose antler anywhere and don't want it, let me know. I'd take one for my hunting room. Keep the huntin up bud, we need some more birds down!

Thanks Mottz..
Heading back out this morning.. I am going to leave a little bit later as I want try my luck at calling one where I saw one coming home yesterday. It is the same area where I tried to get a location on one. I used an owl call. and ended up with around 4 different owls hooting back at me.. I couldn't tell if a turkey did respond or not.. LOL it was kind of cool but I wanted to hear a gobble or something from the turkeys..
