I must agree with you Mottz on the change in the weather... Last year the were gobbleing up a storm at this time. I even got to watch a couple of toms duking it out on a dirt road I was traveling on. This year most of the places I hunt still has a quite a bit of snow. I have seen a couple of flocks with 30 to 50 birds in them heading to a couple of feeders. So nothing realy going on here yet. That is making it better for me as our season is still a month away. The big tom I saw today appeared to be all alone right now.
We used to take the day off from work the first day of deer season. But now with my normal schedule of 3 on 3 off it does not matter so much now.

DTC a lot can happen in 2 weeks time. Last year on Easter Sunday it was snowing while 2 toms were fighting it out. So when it is time they will be going at it again.
Good Luck to you once your season starts.. Nice pics from your trail cam as well thanks for sharing with us all..

Good Luck to you as well Wilcam! I hope you get that bruin of a bear when your season starts as well as a nice big Tom to share the stories with us all.

I had to go get a new entry lock for my house this afternoon. The one that we had on it for years gave way when I came home from checking the mail. I had to get the wife to take it apart while giving her directions from out side. Anyhow it was quite windy up here today and when I went to the local hardware store I saw a nice group of turkeys. I had to stop and let them cross the road. They were running and flying everywhere. That was a decent size group of hens and as I drove on a treeline serperated them from another field. Just beyond the treeline there was a big tom and 2 jakes running down to catch up with all those hens. I could easily see that they are still flocked up here at least. This weekend our temps are suposed to be hitting in the low 50s. This may get some of them started although I am hoping not yet at least..

Cool, you prob cant hunt where you see those turkeys huh?

I haven't seen the big flock where I plan on hunting lately...it may have broke up already. I do see the 6-12 in the same area...I saw over 50 Elk not more that 2 miles as the crow flies from where I usually see the turkey!

I can hunt in the field that they had come out of if I want to. I am choosing a different area though. Besides these birds will be getting a quite a bit of pressure right off and most likely this flock would have been scattered by then.

There is another area that will be getting pressured as well. That area last year had 2 flocks in it. 1 flock had around 100 turkeys in it while the other had around 30 turkeys in it. I saw the smaller flock in it last Saturday evening. These turkeys will scatter and travel the pipeline/ power line where I plan on hunting them again. This is where the scouters will help send them up away from the pressured areas.. That is where I plan on doing my calling just up past them all..

Well, a week of spring break with the family and no chance to slip off after an Osceola (won't happen again if I am in Lakeland!), and an opening day of lots of gobbling and lots of hens, and a friend who texted me his third bird in the last 10 days, I get hospitalized for a colon problem that landed me in surgery... I will be recovering until I preach on Easter. I leave for Africa on Tuesday and won't be back until April 13... That leaves me the last three weeks... Sorry guys... Maybe those last few days will be good. I have always contributed to my turkey team, so I hope I don't let u guys down. Good luck, everybody.

I am sorry to hear about you colon issue Arjuna.. I hope you have a decent recovery. I also know you have contributed quite a few turkeys over the last few years at least. It was not until the last 2 years before I have contributed any turkeys. I am hoping for the same kind of luck this coming season. No one really knows for sure though. Do not worry to much about nailing a turkey. Just enjoy your trip and the rest of us will do what ever we can to compensate.. Good luck with your recovery as well as your trip..

Sorry to hear about the colon issues Ajuna. Hope recovery is going well. A week with the family and a trip to Africa! Sounds to me like even without a Turkey your still livin well! Hope the trip is a success and 3 weeks of season when you return should still give ya a legitimet shot a bird, heck 3 weeks is longer than my whole season!

How many guys we got hittin the woods this weekend?

snapper1982 03-28-2013 04:31 PM

not letting us down bud. we are a team. we will work (win or lose) as a team. i pray for a speedy and complete recovery for you.
