Official Team 20 "Strut's Wingbone Brigade" Thread
Team 20 is all accounted for, and ready for war :D
Strut&Rut steve m Huntinlady BrushChimp crazycoonhunterNE Indianahunter83 davidlj MOhunter46 Hoyt Viper Tarheel Turkey struttin46374 Post where you'll be hunting, include the sub-species you'll hunt, and the potential number of tags you can fill. If anybody has a team name thought, throw that in there too ;) I've bagged loads of Eastern gobblers, but am excited about hunting out here in the Pacific NW for the first time. I'm hunting in Oregon, and hope to bag a Rio in the SW and a Merriam-rio hybrid in the NE... S&R |
RE: Team 20

RE: Team 20
Thanks for the nomination guys. I'll be glad to lead us to victory in this war [8D]
Just a little diddy 'bout myself... I grew up in Central NY, where I began chasing longbeards. I then went to CT, where it took me 9 years to complete my MS and PhDs in Animal Science. During those years, I truly mastered the art of hunting longgbeards, and harvested 6 birds that scored between 65-75. CT is really a hidden gem in the NorthEast, and holds some absolute monsters on private lands... After completing the PhD, I took a position here in Oregon. Packed up the family---wife, 7 year old daughter and 2 year old son---and have had a blast the past 14 months. This will be my first foray after these western birds, but I've secured permission on private lands in some of the state's best turkey hunting. If I don't go broke ($18 each tag plus GAS), I may get the chance to harvest three this year. I'm really going to try for a Merriam's in the NE corner of the state, where the only chance of harvesting a true Merriam in Oregon is still possible. I'm also hoping to bag a whopper of a Rio in the SW portion of the state...a young kid landed one of the largest Rios on record there about 3 years ago. It's a little different out here in the Pacific NW, especially OR. In CT and NY, I could travel 5 min and be on a 300 acre farm. Here, it's travel at least 2 hr to get to anywhere huntable, and a good 5-8 hr trek if I want to be in the pristine turkey woods. But hey, it is what it is ;) As for the name, because we had a few votes for a few names, I chose..."Strut's Wingbone Brigade"... S&R |

|
RE: Official Team 20 "Strut's Wingbone Brigade" Thread
I have been chasing long beards for 22 seasons counting this up coming season i have been involved in 28 harvests in alabama and indiana. the last 5 years i have been hunting with my bow exclusivly however if hunting with a gun could have harvested up to8 birds ( 1 miss,2 deer busting me, being caught by the birds 2 times and hanging up out of bow range 3 times) but that is called hunting. I do take friends and family in which most of the 28 birds were harvested by them. I enjoy hunting public lands once you harvest abird on public land the you've accomplished something good luck to my other team members

Just wondering if anyone on the team is hunting in VA? I am willing to travel to help call or shoot. If anyone wants to come call or shoot for me my property is open! I have approximately 400 private acres to hunt in 3 different locations. I could use a good caller!!
![]() Seriously, pm me if you are interested! |
RE: Official Team 20 "Strut's Wingbone Brigade" Thread
Yeah but 13 tags doesn't quite mean 13 turkeys. I'm just feel very fortunate to hunt in different areas of the country. Good luck!

RE: Official Team 20 "Strut's Wingbone Brigade" Thread
Has anybody thought about a team avatar???????
|
RE: Official Team 20 "Strut's Wingbone Brigade" Thread
Hey guys,
Sorry I haven't been on much. I was entertaining family for the past week, my brother and his wife flew out from NY and stayed for 10 days... A team avatar is an excellent idea...I don't have any "extra time", but I may be able to put something together within the next month. If anybody is good at Photoshop (etc.), post your sample on here, so we can all see it and vote... Note that there is now a separate thread at the top of the Turkey Contest Forum dedicated just for harvest pics. After you've reported your harvest on our team thread, please post your harvest pics on that thread. That thread allows all of us in the contest to see everyone's kills without scrolling through each individual team thread. Also feel free to list the birds stats and 1-2 sentences describing the hunt... I don't know about you guys, but after taking last YEAR off, I'm ready to bag a few longbeards!! S&R |
RE: Official Team 20 "Strut's Wingbone Brigade" Thread
Well who is the first one on our team up to bat? I won't be in the woods untill the last week in april.
Is there any one getting an early start |
RE: Official Team 20 "Strut's Wingbone Brigade" Thread
I don't get to go until april 21. I saw a couple strutting the other day and some friends at school say that they are really starting to gobble. The season can't get here fast enough!!
|
RE: Official Team 20 "Strut's Wingbone Brigade" Thread
Our season starts April 15th, but due to work and soccer (I coach my daughter's team), I won't get out until early May. I'm also taking a good friend who is a relative newbie afield, so although it should be a blast, my success rate may depend on his actions more than on my luck...haha...
|
RE: Official Team 20 "Strut's Wingbone Brigade" Thread
From the looks of everybody's seasons, most of us start either this weekend or within the next 2 weeks.
Hoyt, any luck in LA? I see your season started in March...give us some updates!! Tarheel and struttin, have you guys been out in the Southern states yet---if so, give us some feedback. Interestingly, most of us are all hunting different states, which is fun but also unfortunate for trying to get hunts lined up with one another... Be safe everyone, and good luck to those of you that start this weekend... S&R |
RE: Official Team 20 "Strut's Wingbone Brigade" Thread
