Team 7 "Jelly Heads"

Where ya at Team 7? As the other teams have done, let's get to know each other!

I'm Sonny Simpson. I'm 34 and live in New Jerseyand I'm a painting contractor by trade.I'll be starting the season out in Florida then going to Georgia then coming back to NJ to finish out the season. I've been hunting for most of my life but have only recently been turned on to turkey hunting. This will be my second year turkey hunting.I'm sick with myself for missing so much time in the turkey woods by not starting turkey hunting earlier![:'(]Anyway, let's have some fun and get some big birds this year lucky 7! Simp

I'ma United Methodistpastor serving in Hartford, AL. I'm34 years old with three lovely kids, beautiful wife, and agolden retriever. My life is great, but fixing to get a lot better come March 15!I'm taking a kid from the church out to the youth hunt at Fort Ruckerthis Saturday. Then it is on to my seasonnext Saturday through April 30. Last year, I contributedto my team and hope to do the same this year. I've got lots of birds around, if I don't screw it up.

When does everybody's season run? - March 15-April 30 for me.

I've gotten some pictures posted on and will share some more as the season comes in. By the way, the year in the pic is wrong... I have fixed the camera, the next pics should be correct. It should read 2008.

Hey guys, I've been hunting for about 37 years. I've been a serious turkey hunter for over 10 years. I mainly hunt on my property down here in north Louisiana. I've got two nice longbeards on my place as of now that I will be chasing this season. I will also be going to Tennessee a few times. BTW, my name is Mike. Lets have a great season.

RE: Team 7 check in

You guys ready?!!! What about a name?

Arjuna 03-03-2008 08:29 PM

RE: Team 7 check in

As far as names go, I recommend Team 7th Legion, from Tom Kelly's classic turkey hunting book called Tenth Legion. He invited turkey hunters to become members of "the legion." Of course, with our team being #7 it would be confusing to be the Tenth Legion, so we could be our group of elite turkey hunters called the Seventh Legion or just "The Legion." .... Just an idea....

Simp 03-03-2008 08:55 PM

RE: Team 7 check in

Sounds good to me! Just to be fair, let's give it a day or so and see what everyone else thinks. I kinda like "The Seventh Legion".Whaddya say, giveeveryone until5:00PM on the5th to check in and then we'll make a decision on the name? Or is that too long? Simp

Arjuna 03-03-2008 09:03 PM

RE: Team 7 check in

It's fine with me. If team 10 goes with the name, we might want to change. They are the only ones that might think that the legion is an appropriate name. If we get it first, then good for us!

Arjuna 03-03-2008 10:10 PM

RE: Team 7 check in

of course another team name might be "fatal attraction" ...just another thought.

Hey guys! My name is Justin. I'm a manager at an automotive manufacturing company in Nothern Indiana. You guys are lucky to be living down south. I have to wait until April 25th. As far as a name goes, I'm pretty easy. I do like the " Fatal Attraction". Good luck to you guys this season. Call 'em in and show 'em a load of #6's.

Hey, try April 25th! Let's get everyone involved here and put the smack down on these other teams. Hick - that is a good looking bird you got in your avatar. I remember my first bird. I was 19 years old. My very first morning out and one of my dad's friends who is a vetern turkey hunter of 25 yrs. calls in a lone gobbler at 12 yrds away. I remember this thing just spitting and drumming around the decoys and him whispering in my ear to shoot. After the shot we run up to the bird and I remember him saying, " I can't believe this." My first turkey weighed 24.5 lbs. had a 12 1/4" beard and 1 1/2 and 1 5/8" spurs. This is a bird of 5 life times and itwas my first bird. Needless to say it is mounted full strut and sitting on my living room floor.

Nice 2 lunger that was a huge bird for your first one mine was 21 1/2 lbs and had a 10 1/2 inch bird with 1 1/8 in. spurs here is the video we got of it last year on the first day of youth season hunting with my bro.

http://s68.photobucket.com/albums/i7/Hick442/?action=view&current=KillShotofIsaacsTurkey.fl v

The bird first ran cause my borther(Cay4redneck)missed with his bow from about 30 yards right under it then i shot as it ran back up the hill.

Arjuna 03-05-2008 08:02 PM

RE: Team 7 check in

Alright guys. Thanks for the stories. My first bird was taken six years ago, with a bow and arrow. A friend called him in to 12 yards. He had 3/4" spurs, 18.5 lbs. and 9 1/2" beard. His fan, beard, and lower legs are in my office as a fan mount with the arrow mounted to it. My next two birds were bow and arrow. Now I shoot 'em with a gun or bow, whatever the situation allows.

Now, I would like to hear your thoughts about a name... Some have liked "Fatal Attraction." Another option might be "The Legion." As I have thought about it, I think I like Fatal Attaction.

I'll post some pics from this morning here in few minutes.

Aw shucks, thanks for the recommendations guys! I'd be glad to be the team captain. I'll point out one thing though, I'll be away from a computer for the last week or two in March. Gotta try them Osceolas!;) I'm guessing that most of the country wont be turkey hunting until April so maybe that'll be OK.

We'll need to assign someone the responsibility of posting the team scores as well. I'll leave that up to you guys if you want me to. Simp

Thanks Simp. Our season starts March 15. When will you be gone? What do we need to do to keep up with the scores? Is is just pm'ing the mod's? I can certainly do that if we need someone to do it ...WHILE you are gone. Whatever I can do to help, I'll be glad to.

Anyother name suggestions guys? Looks like Jellyheads or fatal attraction...

Thanks for your help Arjuna! I'll be hunting the week of the 17th in Florida and will be hunting the week of the 24th in Georgia. I just re-read the rules of the contest and I'm a little confused as to what they mean by having:

"some specially assigned members who will be in charge of posting scores on the score sheet, each of these specially assigned members will have a team(s) that they will be in charge of posting scores for."

I'm not sure if this is someone on our team already that we have to pick, or if it is someone that is picked for us, kind of like someone that doesn't have a "dog in the fight" ya know? I'll find out and get back to the team with an answer. Simp

RE: Team 7 check in

Thanks Simp, that's just the sort of leadership we expect from our captain! I'll do my part in getting us some points on the board. You do the same, and we'll figure out how to get those points turned in!

Simp 03-07-2008 03:07 PM

RE: Team 7 check in

Ok guys, Here's an email that JW just sent me regarding the "specially assigned members" question:

"Well, I believe that at this point, mostly moderators shall be updating the the score sheet itself, but team captains, will submit these scores to the moderators."

Thanks JW for clearing that up for us! OK guys, there we have it. I'll relay any scores to JW and then one of the moderators will post them on the score sheet. Keep me busy sending scores to JW!:D

Have wenailed downa team name yet? Simp

It sounds like Jellyheads is the favorite, but haven't heard from everyone.

I'm taking a youth out for the youth hunt at Fort Rucker in the morning. 32 degrees and 20mph winds. That's alot colder than we get on opening morning, usually. It's also terribly windy. Wish me luck.
