RE: Team 7 check in
Maglite, your post reminded me of one of the guys that contaminated me with the disease of turkey hunting. He used to come back from a good hunt talking about those "trashy hens." He loved to hate them. Enjoy the woods. Hunt safe. Have a good time. Maybe, if your lucky enough you can kill a turkey. Good luck and God bless.

RE: Team 7 check in
Yeah those HENS are still pretty much ahead of me. There just starting to nest so the hen numbers are HIGH but Ill get er done! Going back after lunch today to get one! MAYBE!

RE: Team 7 check in
I'm back from Georgia with no good news. We located a couple of birds but soon after first light they flew across the river and were gone. Didn't see or hearany others either. Pretty disappointing. Anyway, our season opens in a couple of weeks and hopefully things will change! Simp

RE: Team 7 check in
Okay, it's my turn to cry. The bird I have been hunting for over a year, whom I affectionally called "Loudmouth", was killed this past Thursday morning by a guy on a club that borders my land. What really pisses me off is I'm 99.9% sure this guy killed him in his roost tree. I heard him shoot, and it was waytoo early for them to be off roost. I was listening to another bird still on roost when I heard the shot. It was barely light enough to see. Of course when I talked to him he said he was on the ground. In Louisiana,as long as you shoot the bird within the legal shooting hours you can shoot them on their roost, but it's not right in my opinion. I didn't question him or push the issue. The bird wasn't on my land, so there's nothing I could say, but I'm still a little upset. That's the only way this guy was ever going to kill this bird. He was a wise old bird and I was looking forward tochasing him this year. I knew this bird better than anyone, and this yahoo shoots him out of a tree. I left a bird gobbling on my place Friday morning that wouldn't work,to sit and watch it rain in Tenn. this weekend. I hope he is still around. Needless to say, my first Tenn. trip was a washout. I'm going back next week to hunt forfour days. I hope the weather is kinder then. It hasn't been a very good start this season. The good news is it can only get better, right?

RE: Team 7 check in
Sorry about your sniper, super. Good luck and look for another bird.
|
RE: Team 7 check in
foend some nice tracks back in the woods and saw some hens in my yard. getting pretty pumped for the season that starts on april 18th.
|
RE: Team 7 check in
BTW, "Loudmouth" weighed 21 pounds, had a 10 and 7/8 inch beard, and both spurs were 1 inch.
|
RE: Team 7 check in
Thought I'd breath some life into our thread;). I've been seeing really good birds and it seems as they're starting to get fired up here. Definitely broken up into groups of hens and boss toms. Can't wait!

RE: Team 7 check in
You shot a turkey with a .223?....Why? I don't get it.
Anyway, sorry guys that I haven't been hunting much. It's official. I just found out that I'm moving to Florida to become one of the pastors at Gulf Breeze UMC. It's a little nerveracking. I never thought I'd leave Hartford. So, my mind has been on other things. I'll still try to get a bird, soon. Happy hunting. |
RE: Team 7 check in
Well guys, my second Tenneessee trip was a complete fiasco. The weather got me again. I hunted Thurs.- Sun. and saw a grand total of two longbeards, both with plenty of hens. It rained all dayThurs. and Friday. I couldn't even hunt Friday morning because of the heavy rain. Saturday was cold and windy. Sunday morning was cold and foggy. The birds didn't gobble at all. Very few hunters were tagging birds during this time. I seem to pick the worst times to go on hunting trips. I am planning one more trip to Tenn. This time I will make sure the weather will cooperate. I will be back on my property for the next two weekends to close out the season in LA. Seems like the season just opened and it closes in two weeks here.

RE: Team 7 check in
I know it will but it didnt. I just had my 223 and I know I shouldnt have tried it but I was excited and wanted a bird!!! Still mad that all I got was feathers!!!

RE: Team 7 check in
The turkeys are going absolutely nuts here in Northern Indiana with all of this warm weather. 13 more days!

RE: Team 7 check in
No birds yet guys? This has been the toughest season for me in a long time. The weather has really played a big part this year. Tonight, April 14th, we are supposed to have a frost. Are you kidding me? Thirty-five degrees on April14 in Louisiana? That's the way this season has been going. It's either been raining, or sunny with 25 mph winds. My season ends in LA. this weekend. I'm still going to try Tenn. a couple more times, so I'm not giving up. I've got one smart bird on my place now who has been hunted by four other hunters since the season opened. They have educated him well. If you call to him, he shuts up and goes the other way. I almost got him last Wed. Had him at 40 to 50 yards but couldn't see himbecause of theterrain. Eventually got a clear look at him at 65 yds(later walked it off), but decided not to take the shot. Wasn't sure of the distance and had some brush in the way. I'm going to work on himthe rest of the season. I figured someone on this team would have got one by now. I still believe our team will end up doing good. Who's season hasn't opened yet? How are the rest of you doing? Has it been tough on you as it has on me? Lets here some info. Been quiet here lately.
|
RE: Team 7 check in
Our season opened today. I don't have a permit to hunt this week though but I have one for the next 5 weeks! I think a lot of our guys seasons haven't opened yet.
|
RE: Team 7 check in
My season doesn't open till the 23rd. Not in a big hurry due to the weather. It doesn't even feel like spring. Where is all of that global warming stuff they talk about?
Me and another HNI member are going to spend a couple days roughing it under the stars at a state park loaded with birds and the only people that use it are mountain bikers! Can't wait. |
RE: Team 7 check in
Sounds like you guys are going to have a good time. Good luck!
|
RE: Team 7 check in
I'm with you Super. The weather has been cold and windy down here. I saw a hen, doe, and a bobcat yesterday, but I didn't even hear one gobble. Cold....

Way to go Maglite. It's about time someone put us on the board. God knows I'm struggling this year. Just very few turkeys my way this year. Congrats to you and your wife.
|
RE: Team 7 check in
Thanks I dont know what the POINT total is for him but it ought to be ok his spurs were awesome for here!
|
RE: Team 7 check in
Maglite, according to my calculations, your bird scores 68.9375. Good way to get the ball rolling. Those are some really great spurs.
|
RE: Team 7 check in
Thanks They are the largest Ive ever taken. His beard was a little shy of what I wanted but it was rubbed down BAD. But it was awesome to take him after getting my wife her first turkey! And yes it was bigger than mine!!!!
|
RE: Team 7 check in
Definantly the better half there Maglite! JK! Awesome bird. Those are some monster hooks! Here we go team 7, we just needed someone to break the ice.

|
RE: Team 7 check in

RE: Team 7 check in
Maglite, if the 18 pound bird is yours, then it does score 63.8125. I thought the 19 pound bird was yours. The score I indicated was forthe 19 pound bird. I guess I scored your wifes bird, or is the 19 pound bird yours? Either way, they are two really nice birds.
