RE: Team 15 Sign In
I guess I need to add my story and weapon to the thread?I had been listening to a bird on a local WMA in anticipation that I would take my son there instead of a more...Should I say HIGHLY More popular public hunting area.We got lucky that morning, and so I decided to go listen for the bird on the WMA again.I set up in an open pine/oak area and set out a decoy.I had been scratching in the leaves and yelping softly.Around 7:40pm I heard something running in and thought I was about to be attacked by a coyote or something.I snatched my 870 super mag up and A big tom cleared the palmettos in time to see me.He slammed on brakes, and I kept pulling the gun up.Pulled the trigger when I got it on him.Wasn't a pretty shot, but got him anyways. He flopped around a little in the swamp, and got his tailfan wet.See pics above..
17lbs 6oz 10 1/4" beard 1 5/8" spur,and 1 9/16" spur Date---3/22/08 Time---7:40pm Weapon---870 super Mag 3 1/2" Winchester High Velocity 2oz #4's State---Georgia |

Nice work 20. I have ben scouting quite a bit, and I'm very excited about the opener. I have access to Rio's in Jefferson (SW) County and Eastern's in Choctaw and Coal Counties. It's my own small version of a grand slam. I've scored one of each (knock on wood) for the last several years.
Thanks for posting the pic. I'm jacked up and ready. |
RE: Team 15 Sign In

|
RE: Team 15... Spurr-fect
Thanks Ranchand. Photo is posted. Check it out. I took the photo of the turkey laying beside the shed I found the same morning.
|
RE: Team 15... Spurr-fect
I killed a big one this morning...I stood on a scale with all my boots and weighed 195 and then i picked up the turkey and it was dead at 220. It had inch and a quarter spurs and a lil over 10 inches. What do i need to get it scored
|
RE: Team 15... Spurr-fect
You need a pic of the bird along with the measurments. Then your captain will post your score. Congrats it sounds like a real nice bird...
|
RE: Team 15... Spurr-fect
I mean the beard was a lil over ten inches. I scored it on the nwtf site and i have a picture now what
|
RE: Team 15... Spurr-fect
Hey I dont know if you can change the score or not, but I apparently measured it wrong. I ended up taking it to my friends house and his dad showed me the way you measure everything and clean it. I shorted myself on the beard because I measured it a lil under where it starts and i didnt make it straight and measure the longest strand. It ended up coming out to 11 1/8 inch
so new score would be: 25+10+10+22=67 |
RE: Team 15... Spurr-fect
Great work Brandon. Sorry, I was out of pocket yesterday or I would have posted your score sooner. I will get the score posted ASAP. Also, you might want to post your photo on the photo post and do a little bragging. That is a great bird.
|
RE: Team 15... Spurr-fect
Brandon, the scoring works this way.
25 lbs is equal to 25 points. Spurs 1 1/4 each or 1.25 (Add em together to get 2.50) then multiply the combined spur length by 10.....Points for spurs 2.50 X 10 = 25 Beard length is 11 1/8 or 11.125 X 2 = 22.25 Combine all those scores: 25 25 22.25 --------- 72.25 Final Score I will post shortly |
RE: Team 15... Spurr-fect
WEB - yep - get it up for Arrow - I have already added to your team score a few pages back here.

I plan on going before work one day this week and for a couple hours this Saturday. I have a lot on my plate this week. Next weekend I have Friday and Saturday off to chase birds. I don't think I've missed much here. I cold rain front moved in Saturday and I'm sure the tom shut down for a bit.
