RE: Official Team 17 "Strut Stoppers" Thread
I sent the details to Rory in a pm Saturday.
the turkey weighed 19.5, 10.75 beard, 1.25 spur, and 1.1875 spur,
killed in Gadsden County, north Florida, with Mossberg 835 Ultimag 3.5 inch #5's, i sat in my Bighouse blind for 9 hours last wednesday, calling occasionally, was very windy, no turkeys, no gobbles...bad weather...warm and blustery...but i knew there were turks around...came back Thurs morn at 9:15, sat til 11am calling loud and occasionally, heard a Pfft vooom...looked out the mesh window in front, had cut a slit for my gun barrel, he was at 15 yards in half strut looking hard and drumming...
I eased the muzzle out of the slit, rushed the shot, think i missed 1st shot, or maybea nick...bird jumps and flies to 10 oclock my left, I stood up, rotated the barrel in that slit while he flew away, pulled the trigger ..he was about 35-40 yards flying away from me...he dropped like a rock after that shot, flopped a bit..i am a patient hunter, but 11 hours is a lot of sitting...they just havent been gobbling over there where i hunt...and thatw asnt your classic hunt...but, oh well, the job got done...

Hello all, been out tryingto get my second birdtoday but it was a difficult day. The Osceolas were gobbling minimally and they did not want to come out and play. Will try again next week. Good luck to everyone.

RE: Team 17 Sign In!!!!
Okay team...got three down. Killed two in Georgia and one in Alabama. I also made a trip to Mississippi for a morning hunt, but was swarmed by Friday hunters. I couldn't believe the number of hunters I came across on Upper Sardis WMA. Simply amazing! Sat down and started calling at flydown and had three different people creep up on me. Didn't hear anything gobble, but around 10am I did finally shock a turkey into gobbling. He had 12 hens and walked right onto the non hunting area due to a controlled burn. Here's a run down on the hunts that took place while I was gone.
1st bird
Big Lazer Creek WMA, Georgia
Killed him on Georgia's opener 3/22 using a Browning Gold 3.5
3.5 Nitros 4x5x7
35 yards
24 pounds
10 3/4" beard
1 1/8" spurs
Your score is 24 + 11.25 + 12.5 + 21.5 = 69.25
2nd bird
Cedar Creek WMA, Georgia
Killed him on 3/25
21 pounds
10.5" beard
1" spur
Your score is 21 + 10 + 10 + 21 = 62
3rd bird
Skyline WMA, AL
Killed him on 3/27
25 pounds
10.75" beard
1 1/8" spurs
Your score is 25 + 11.25 + 11.25 + 21 = 68.5
I've got alot of hunting left and don't know if I want to register these birds yet. One is a real nice one, but I've got alot more hunting left. Still have Oklahoma and Kansas coming up. Those Rio's will score well. Will post pics in a bit.
