For home I'd recommend you look into buying yourself a gun safe. For your requirements for a field case, just about any case would do, but I still prefer at least a hard plastic case. It'll prevent damage except in the most extreme circumstances. I've seen wooden stocks dinged through a soft case from bouncing around in a truck bed.
