I found a dead buck in Southern Illinois on the 3rd weekend in February. We've had a really mild winter but there was still A LOT of meat on the face and the skull cap looked just like the one pictured. There wasn't much left of the rest of the carcass though, so I could believe that there would be that much hair/meat on the skull plate.
Same here - we found a dead one just a few weekends ago and it was the same way - a lot of meat/hair on the head and not much of the rest of the carcass remaining.
