Cut back on the more proficent equipment and you cut back on deer kills...not rocket science is it/ now compounds can hunt from 1st Sat in Oct. thru 2nd Sat in Nov. the majority of archers use compounds, cut that to 2 wks and you cut bow kills
From a theoretical standpoint that argument makes sense. But, when you consider that archers take a significantly smaller percentage of deer in comparison to rifle hunters then it would seem that reducing the rifle season to a week or less would provide a more suitable alternative.
And, though some counties or sections of counties have deer numbers below the recommended level there are other areas where deer numbers are significantly above the recommended ratio. Not surprising is the fact that this typically correlates with the amount of public versus private land in the same areas.
As always, until the Game Commission has the power to regulate the amount of deer taken on private land there can be no effective deer management program in Pennsylvania.
