Best advice:
bring very little gear. If you have it you will feel obligated to mess around with it. I used to bring a backpack with all kinds of crap. Last year I reduced down to stuff that will mostly fit in my pockets

Bow & 3 arrows with a small quiver to hang on the tree
Thin Rope to pull bow up to stand
safety harness (! always !)
Knife
Field dressing rubber gloves (cabelas $4 for a few sets)
Plastic bottle for piss
Water
Bow hook for hanging the bow next to your shooting arm
Small set of Binoculars

Thats it. no noise no fuss. Nothing will scare animals quicker than the sound and smell of unneeded gadgets.
