I never did , and don't think you need to unless you are trying to shoot some kind of 22 rifle matches.
I have a .920 di. barrel from MIdway and it shoots clover leafs at 50 yds if I do my part and use the right ammo.
The only thing I did was put in a new Volquartsen preped hammer to lighten the trigger pull.
