True Josh, but I have had to shoot farther than 300yards. And my 300RUM has more penetration IMO than your 35 whelen at 500 than the 35 at 300. Just an opinion. Alot of people get wrapped up in drop, but don't consider, a 300RUM has energy at 500 that a 30-06 would at say 250. Hey, either one works great. I love the 35 whelen. And in shots under 300, and broadsided, I bet it would go straight thru both lungs on a Moose. I have only experience with wide open land moose hunting. I would rather it be up close so I could actually get close enough to remember the experience of the animal with my bare eyes than thru a scope. Thats why I am considering in the future quit northern newfoundland and try Western Canada.

That open land up there, you are lucky to get 100 yards away. And actually watching the animal is half the fun.
