Default RE: Interesting Photos, Opinions?

A papaloma is another name for a wart. It may be one, but I might expect to see more on the head or neck. It may be difficult to tell if it is ok to eat the meat or not. I would check out the lymph nodes of the neck (on either side behind the angle of the jaw) and the ones at the bottom of the neck just in front of the shoulder joint. If they look normal, you can probably eat the deer. You may want to gut her and run her by a large animal vet and get his opinion. Might even send it in for biopsy. You might also show the picture to the game warden in your area. He/she is probably aware of what might be on deer in that area.

Here is a link of a picture of deer warts. Scroll down and click on DEER WARTS: http://www.bandeerbaiting.org/library.html

Bottom line is that if you don't find any other masses on her or on her internal organs and she is in good shape, I think she is probably ok to eat. FYI: I am a veterinarian.
