RE: Fingers or release
I don't really know much about kids, but real releases that don't require subsequent re-learning, are what would be called hair triggers in the gun world. Accidental discharges aren't that uncomon. One option would be for you to go to fingers. Fingers are great if you can do them. I started using a releas, because the knowledge I grew up with suggested you could shoot bows under 46 inches with fingers, and that is were bows are going. Of course that is now done all the time. Also there is a lot more comp in the 3D release classes. Fingers are a great way to learn, and allow the budding archer to branch out into FITA, Traditional, or stay with the compound. Picking up a release after fingers is a breeze.
