Never never never make eye contact with a whitetail or wild animal in general. You ever do this to a dog? This will put them in defense mode, it is like a chalenge and they are gone. I've had very close encounters with deer while bowhunting and always at the least squint your eyes so they do not get the full view.

You are probably right, who knows how many times ive actually been busted . 3 times for sure, staired right into the eyes of the beast. They never made any movements like they winded me? the prevailing wind is 90% of the time in my face. Its like as soon as they step out of the wood line they know im there?
