I feel the need for a new rifle. This will be for deer and antelope nothing bigger, my 7mm mag and .350 mag handle the heavyweights nicely. Would you go with a .25-06 or a .270? ..... One advantage that .25 would give is that its legal for varmint hunting near home while the .270 is not ..... Do you think there is a real advantage with the .270 vs .25-06 on mule deer size game when loading both with premiums?
I don't believe I'm saying this, but in this case I'd go with the 25-06. The 270Win., as previously noted, will handle larger game, but you don't need to be concerned about that
as you already have the 7mm Rem.Mag, and the 350Mag.(helluva' an elk cartridge there).
The 25-06 will handle antelope & mule deer out to 400yds with no problem. And, as varmint hunting seems to be a consideration for you, it is certainly a better choice for this application. Yep, go with the 25-06
