During the rut if I hunt the morning, take a break, hunt the midday, take a break and hunt the evening. Otherwise I hunt the first and last three. Deer in our woods move late in the morning, so going in before light is a waste. I go in when I can see and don't use a light. The majority of deer we see, including big bucks, are about 2 hours after light and right before dark in the evening (last 1/2 hour). Mid day hunting in my area in September and October early season is not productive as the deer are bedded unless they are pushed. I try to let trail cams take a lot of the pain, instead of my ass, when it comes to patterning buck movement times.
