If you are talking about deer hunting then look at the 7mm08 or 308. I have used about everything for deer hunting. This year I started out with the 30-06. Truth be told even though the 30-06 is one of the most popular deer guns in the world, Its really more gun than is needed for deer. I just bought a new 25-06 which I have not fired yet but it should be a near perfect deer rifle. The 270 is in the same class. If you are going to be hunting game bigger than deer then the 30-06 would be a good choice. I will never part with my 30-06 Remington pump but I think I have shot my last deer with it.
