Building a new 300 RUM
Hi all,
Quick question. I have a remington 700 long action that was previously on an 8mm rem mag and I want to put a 300 RUM barrel that was off of another remington 700 onto the old 8mm action. (The barrel is a 26" factory remington 700 barrel in 300 RUM) Besides having to headspace the action for the new cartridge, do you believe that I will have to have the chamber reamed to fit the 300 RUM bullets, or do you believe that I should be able to screw in the new barrel considering that they are both from remington 700 "magnum" rifles.
I believe that my father-in-law and I can do the headspacing, as he has done it before, but he doesn't have the reamers so we would have to take it to a gunsmith if any other work is required.
Just wondering if anybody has any experience doing this.
Thanks
