RE: How high is high enough?
Howdy Makoto.I let the paticular hunting situation dictate how high I will place my stand.Where I generally do most of my hunting,it's pretty heavy with foliage during early season.Getting up pretty high will decrease my ability to see deer coming in until they are nearly on top of me.Therefore, early on I will often hunt lower than most of the season. As leaves drop and the canopy begins to open up some,I tend to climb/place my stands a little higher. There are pros and cons to consider concerning height of stand placement. The higher you get,the chance of a deer winding you as he comes into bow range decreases and the more movement you will be able to get away with. The downside of increases in height is that it creates a much sharper angle to shoot at,which may make a double-lung hit near to impossible without the arrow hitting heavy bone.
All this being said,I generally place my stands at a hunting height of 15-25 feet(with 18-22 being the most common).Hope this helps.Good huntin'.........whack<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>
