RE: Combo-v-rangefinder & bino seperately?
I have a set of Leopold 10X42 Wind River Cascades that I hang at my chest with a binocular harness that keep the binoculars close to my chest when they are not in use. These binoculars work very nicely for me and with their long eye relief I use them while wearing my glasses. I also have a Leica 1200 rangefinder that I keep in a pouch hooked to my belt. They are very lightweight and their visual optical quality (7X monocular) is very good. I use the binoculars much more than I use the rangefinders and I think the separate units are the way to go. I typically use the rangefinder when I'm at a ground stand and I'm going to stay for a while. I determine the distance to the prominant land features and any does I see grazing while waiting for a buck to show. I also think that you would be better served with 8 or 10X by 42 binoculars, since you would use them much more frequently than the rangefinder.
