I've been using Federal primers with a Lee hand primer tool for quite some time and as long as you're careful it works fine. If you squeeze too hard you can see a flat spot on the face of the primer so just guage your squeeze to not go that far. I used safety glasses and face shield at first, now just the safety glasses.

A friend of mine was having a problem with his Lee Auto Prime, come to find out he had the small primer rod in with the large primer tray. This is where the danger begins as he was putting a serious dent in even CCI primers.
