RE: Do treestands spook deer?
I use a summit viper and do not get picked off but I am careful with the tree I pick. The issue with all climbers are you have to have a straight tree with no limbs in order to climb it. This means no cover. I look for trees close together to provide cover or climb to the height where the limbs start. I had a buck 15 yards from me yesterday and I was in my climber and he never knew I was there. I was also only 15 feet off the ground, but had good back cover. I have had deer directly under me beofore also. I try to face the direction deer will come if I have limited cover to keep the tree trunk behind me to block any movement. Good luck and do not give up yet. Evaulatue your setups where you got busted from the deers perspective at ground level. That may provide some answers.
