You will probably do more damage trying to take your rifle apart (frequently) than you risk by carefully cleaning from the muzzle. Conical bore guides are for sale very cheaply at gun stores, or online, and will prevent you from nicking the crown. I use one of these to clean my Remington 742 and it works fine.
