Used rifles are usually a pretty good deal, but be careful this close to hunting season. Pawnshops especially will try to price gouge. I noticed the used racks at my local shops are looking a bit bare. For your price range it is going to be very hard to beat a Savage pakage rifle. They are tough, reliable and shoot well. You can always change the glass later if it is not to your liking. I still have a scope from a package gun that is sitting on top of a 22 WMR and still going strong.
