Default RE: Which .270 to buy?????

I'm not familiar with Academy, but it is usually very difficult to beat Walmart's prices on new rifles. Before California Walmarts were forced to quit selling guns they would usually have Winchesters, Weatherbys, Rugers and Remingtons for around $400 or so. These were the lower end models with synthetic stocks, which are quite satisfactory for a field gun. Our local sporting goods stores often advertise Savages with scopes for about that price also, and the new Remngton 710 can be had with scope for about that price also. The Remington 710 is a somewhat controversial gun due to many design and manufacturing innovations intended to keep the price down. In other words, there are those who will look down their nose at you if you have one. I am not partial to too much plastic in a gun myself but then that's just my opinion; they're worth a look, then you can make up your own mind.

The suggestion of looking for a used rifle & scope combo is not a bad one at all, however, especially in your price range. You might look around at the used deals before you buy; new rifles will always be available, but if you find a used one that meets your needs you may be very glad that you did.

Just be careful when buying a new rifle to look it over for any obvious flaws. Here's a link to a site you ay find useful, with tips on what to look for in a used rifle. Good luck!
