Don't know how easy it would be to get both a scope and rifle for that money; certainly I don't see any new Rem BDL's for that price. You may find a Remington 700 ADL in 270 under $500, especially at chain stores. (I'm not knocking chain stores, either.) The advantage to the ADL is that it comes with iron sights, so you could get into shooting while checking out scopes. I haven't seen any new Winchester M70's under 500, but maybe I am looking at the wrong places. Both the ADL and BDL use the strong 700 action.
