I used the synthetic stock on mine until I got the 45/70 barrel. Recoil is fairly stout with heavy loads with that light stock. The laminated stock makes it a easier to shoot off the bench because of the extra wieght in the stock. I got my stock at E. Arthur Brown for a good price, they are having a sale on them.
