We don't have poisonous snakes up here in New England so I like to take a page from Steve Erwinns book.

I pounce on any snake I see (in my best Australian accent) then I jad them in the eye with a stick, Like this see. This really pisses them off.
In reality, I've heard of a few timber rattlers but never have come across one in all my years in the woods.
