RE: help on getting rid of scent on backpack
For all of my gear that I can't throw into the washing machine, I mix up a big tub of water, baking soda and 3% peroxide and hand wash everything in that. Then I hang it outside to dry for a couple of days. You should notice that once it dries, the baking soda will be left in the fabric (or at least that's what I figured the white residue was). After it's dry, I store it in a scent free bag.
